Overview

The Chadar River Trek, also known as the Zanskar Trek or the Ladakh Frozen River Trek, is the only one of its kind in the world. The trek is completely covered with snow all over the place. It’s both thrilling and terrifying, a paradise for trekker’s and nature lovers. Steep canyons surround you most of the trek. As you make your way through fast-flowing, icy-cold river water, the canyon walls can be your sole source of support. The Zanskar River is a large, fast-flowing river that runs all year. For the most part, it flows between Chilling and the Zanskar valley through a rocky canyon. The walk is unique and it takes place at a high altitude and on a frozen sheet of ice.

What you will do

Expand All

Fly over long stretches of snow-covered Himalayan mountains.
Take enough rest to acclimatize to the weather and remember to drink enough water and keep yourself hydrated.
Overnight at Leh.

According to new Ladakh government regulations, anyone doing the Zanskar river trek should stay at least two days in Leh to get their body thoroughly acclimatised to the weather conditions here.
You can spend the day shopping at the Leh market.

Trekkers in Jammu and Kashmir are required to undergo a medical examination as per government regulations.
You will be given a green signal for the trek only when you have been cleared by the officer. The trekkers will also receive their wildlife permits, insurance, and other necessary documentation.

You'll be headed to Shingra Koma, which is the starting point of the trek.
The road to Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Magnetic Hill, and the confluence of the Zanskar and Indus rivers is one of the most spectacular in the entire region of Ladakh.
After 90-minute trek along the Zanskar River you will reach Chilling.
The first day trek will lead you to Gyalpo, the first campground of the journey, which is located at a river bend and is surrounded by high peaks and magnificent rock faces.
Gyalpo is where you'll spend the night.

After a warm breakfast head to the next campsite at Tibb Cave, where you will come across some of the most beautiful frozen waterfalls.
You can stop for lunch halfway to Tibb Cave, with the Zanskar running beside you with its emerald green waters.

Head to Naerak after breakfast.
The ice waterfall, which is the most spectacular highlight of the trek can be seen throughout the 13-kilometer trek. This frozen waterfall is a natural wonder and attracts hikers and adventurers from all over the world.

After breakfast, begin your return journey to the Tibb cave.
On your return, the Chadar would have taken on a completely different appearance, making it nearly hard to tell if you've been here before.

Day 8 - Tibb Cave to Shingra Yokma via Gyalpo

Begin your journey at Tibb and ascend to Gyalpo, then continue on to Shingra Yokma. The massive mountain walls that rise up on both sides of the river resemble castle walls.
On your way you will be noticing a lot of fresh trails and footprints all along the Chadar river trek, belonging to Foxes, Ibex, or Snow leopards.
Return and overnight at Leh

Return from Leh
Check out of the hotel after breakfast and get transferred to the airport.
